The Batemans Bay Safer Drivers Course is designed to help young learner drivers develop safer driving attitudes, recognise potential hazards and make better decisions behind the wheel.
Awesome SDC® is a NSW provider of the Transport for NSW Safer Drivers Course, delivering courses for eligible learner drivers throughout NSW, including Batemans Bay and the surrounding South Coast region.
What is the Safer Drivers Course?
The Safer Drivers Course is a Transport for NSW program specifically designed for young learner drivers.
The course focuses on the things that can make the biggest difference to your safety on the road - recognising hazards, understanding risk, making safer decisions and learning how your choices as a driver can affect you and others.
Rather than teaching you how to operate a car, the Safer Drivers Course focuses on helping you understand why crashes happen and how you can reduce your risk of being involved in one.
The course is made up of two modules and takes approximately 5 hours to complete.
Module 1 - Interactive Workshop
Module 1 is a 3-hour interactive workshop held in a classroom environment.
A qualified facilitator takes students through a range of real-life driving situations using interactive activities, videos, discussions and practical examples.
Students explore topics including:
- Identifying potential hazards
- Understanding the risks faced by young drivers
- Making safer decisions
- Managing distractions
- Understanding speed and stopping distances
- Recognising situations that can lead to a crash
- Understanding how passengers can influence driving behaviour
- Developing strategies to reduce risk
Module 2 - Practical Driving Session
Module 2 is a 2-hour practical coaching session completed with a qualified driving instructor.
There are two students in the vehicle, allowing learners to observe, discuss and practise safer driving strategies.
The practical session builds on the knowledge gained during Module 1 and helps learners apply safer decision-making strategies to real driving situations.
Earn 20 Bonus Logbook Hours
One of the biggest benefits of completing the Safer Drivers Course is that eligible learners can receive 20 bonus hours in their NSW learner driver logbook.
These bonus hours can help you work towards the required driving experience for your provisional licence.
The Safer Drivers Course is not a replacement for regular driving practice. We strongly encourage learners to continue driving with their supervising driver and build as much real-world experience as possible.

Who can complete the Batemans Bay Safer Drivers Course?
The Safer Drivers Course is available to eligible NSW learner drivers.
Generally, you must:
- Hold a current NSW learner licence
- Be under 25 years of age
- Have completed at least 50 actual driving hours recorded in your logbook
- Meet the current Transport for NSW eligibility requirements
Your bonus hours from other driving programs or driving schools may not count towards the 50 actual hours requirement.
