What is the Safer Drivers Course?
Awesome SDC® is a NSW provider of the Transport for NSW Safer Drivers Course, designed specifically for young learner drivers.
The Safer Drivers Course is packed with practical information about the risks that come with driving and, more importantly, how to recognise and manage those risks. The skills and knowledge you gain can be applied to everyday driving situations and help you become a safer, more confident driver.
The course isn't about teaching you how to operate a car. Instead, it focuses on helping you recognise situations that could compromise your safety and make better decisions to reduce your risk on the road.
The Safer Drivers Course consists of two modules - a 3-hour theory workshop and a 2-hour practical driving session, making 5 hours in total.
Module 1 is a 3-hour interactive workshop held in a classroom with a qualified facilitator. It includes videos, group discussions and activities designed to help learners understand the risks associated with driving and develop safer decision-making skills.
Module 2 is a 2-hour practical session with a qualified local driving instructor. Two students participate in the vehicle, giving learners the opportunity to put the concepts from Module 1 into practice in real driving situations.
Completing the Safer Drivers Course provides eligible learners with 20 bonus logbook hours.

Where are the Ballina Awesome SDC® courses held?
Awesome SDC® Ballina Safer Drivers Courses are held at the Comfort Inn All Seasons Ballina.
The course is delivered by a qualified local facilitator, with practical driving sessions conducted by local driving instructors.
When are Ballina Safer Drivers Courses held?
Ballina courses are scheduled throughout the year, including Saturdays, Sundays and NSW school holidays, subject to availability.
Course dates can fill quickly, particularly during school holidays, so we recommend booking early to secure your preferred date.
Who can complete the Safer Drivers Course?
The Safer Drivers Course is available to eligible NSW learner drivers who:
- Hold a current NSW learner licence
- Are under 25 years of age
- Have completed at least 50 actual driving hours in their logbook
Eligible Health Care Card and Pension Card holders may also be able to complete the course free of charge, subject to Transport for NSW eligibility requirements.
